Stage Business – Gerry Fostaty
Michael Dion is an actor, not a detective, but when Amanda, a colleague, asks him to help her find Kyle, her friend’s rebellious son, how can he refuse? The gig turns out to be much more than Michael had bargained for. Kyle has fallen into the clutches of smalltime drug dealers. Egged on by Amanda, Michael bluffs and blusters his way to secure the boy’s release. The thugs overreact, putting Michael’s life at risk until his fellow actors and special effects artists come to his rescue.

I read your comments on Canadian Bookshelf Literary Blog. (49thshelf.com) I found that you did an excellent job explaining how it happened and I think that more people should read your book.
The men at St. Philip’s Anglican Church, Unionville, are really looking forward to spending some time with you and hearing some of your powerful story Saturday Oct. 26. You are an inspiration. Thanking you in advance- Stephen Kern
Good evening,
I was hypnotized by this book because so much memories came back. I was NCO for H coy that summer 74. But my coy was out of the base, visiting the Zoo de Québec, when the explosion happened. So we (my coy) had never been witness but in some ways when we returned to the BFC Valcartier and then entered into the cadet camp,”we were there”. Few days (I don’t remember exactly) after the event, I decided to go to the chapel an evening to see by myself. I knew some NCOs (french speaking). I’d been impressed by the number of injured cadets. I thought I was at war. In fact, it looked like war could be. But that’s a part of the problem.
This book is a testimony for me. I’ve never heard about what I could call “the Day After” the explosion. It is the missing part. I am talking about the military inquiry (can’t believe this it’s a shame) that soon took place and the 40 years of pain for the survivors. I hope justice will be served to them.

ps: hope my English was understandable
I agree, I hope justice will be served too. It has been too long in coming. Keep up the great work Gerry getting the story out.
JP!
Thank you for your comments, and thank you for reading As You Were. We are very hopeful that the boys will now begin walking a path toward getting the support they need. Thanks again for you note
Cheers!
Gerry
Gerry,
After all these years I went and ordered your book. As a former cadet and I was at Base Valcartier that year.
Othon Mangos was from Royal Montreal Regiment #2862. Was one of our cadets killed in the tragic explosion.
I was spared as the day before I was walking with Cadet Frappier & Charbonneau when Claude was struck by lightening up by the parade square, and was in the hospital when the explosion happened.
Just want to let you know that you book was well written.
Thanks,
Kevin Taylor
So glad your brave work on this terrible incident is helping others find some peace and healingâ¦.God bless you on the Journey
